Scholars of Shandong University Attended the Eighth Nishan Forum on World Civilizations

From September 26 to 28, the 2022 China (Qufu) International Confucius Cultural Festival and the Eighth Nishan Forum on World Civilizations were held in Qufu, Shandong Province. Hundreds of experts and scholars from home and abroad attended the forum to conduct in-depth exchanges around the theme of "Diversity of Human Civilizations and Shared Values of Humanity". As one of the organizers of the Nishan Forum and the main organizer of academic discussions, Shandong University has deeply participated in organizing this grand meeting of world civilization dialogue. As the backbone of the academic group of the Nishan Forum, the Collaborative Innovation Center of Confucian Civilization has provided academic support for the successful convening of the Nishan Forum.

Many leaders and scholars of Shandong University participated in a series of activities of the forum and played a key role in some important parts of the forum. Professor Li Shucai, President of Shandong University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote report at the "Nishan Forum for Presidents of Chinese and Foreign Famous Universities". Wang Qilong, Executive Vice President of Shandong University, delivered a speech at the "Confucius and Tolstoy: Dialogue Across Time and Space" - Confucius and Tolstoy Ideological Dialogue ", Yi Fan, Vice President of Shandong University, served as the host of the exchange between Chinese and foreign presidents of the "Nishan Forum for Presidents of Chinese and Foreign Famous Universities" and made a summary speech at the president salon. Professor Wang Xuedian of the Advanced Institute for Confucius Studies made an academic summary at the closing ceremony of the forum and served as the host of the high-level dialogue. Professor Huang Yushun of the Advanced Institute for Confucius Studies made a keynote speech at the closing ceremony. Professor Yang Chaoming Professor Yan Binggang acted as the interlocutor in the high-level dialogue, and Professor Li Pingsheng and Professor Zeng Zhenyu acted as the moderators in the panel discussion.

In the panel discussion, Professor Zeng Zhenyu focused on "one dimension of the comparison between Confucianism and Mohism: Mohist's shift from the" heaven based theory "to the" righteousness based theory ", Professor Qin Yanshi focused on" the integration of three religions "and cross civilization mutual learning", and Associate Professor Guo Ping focused on "modern subjects and Confucian discourse - and also on Foucault's discourse theory", Associate Professor Cai Jie is entitled "Two forms of early Chinese philosophy from a multi perspective", Associate Professor Liu Chen is entitled "Differentiation of the origin and development of the 'Taishan Fujun' belief", Professor Zhai Kuifeng is entitled "Three Combinations: Kang Youwei on the superiority of Confucianism and Taoism", and Professor Kong Qingfeng is entitled "The the Belt and Road Initiative and Civilized Exchange", Professor Ma Qiuli focused on "Differences and Similarities of Meng Xun Wang Ba's Thought from the Perspective of Methodology", elaborating their own views on the development of cultural integration and human common values, Chinese excellent traditional culture and new forms of human civilization, human common values and global governance. In the keynote speech of the closing ceremony, Professor Huang Yushun of the Advanced Institute for Confucius Studies delivered a speech entitled "Confucius' Outlook on Freedom and Its Justice Basis". He revealed the internal relationship between "freedom" and "justice" from the perspectives of the universal concept of "freedom", the justice basis of Confucius' outlook on freedom, the subjectivity dimension of Confucius' outlook on freedom, and the normative dimension of Confucius' outlook on freedom.

In addition to the main forum, this forum has set up several parallel sub forums. Among them, Professor Fan Yugang made a summary speech at the "Nishan Art Forum" on the theme "Literary and artistic creation in the new era should respond to the 'world question' while absorbing the power of traditional culture to contribute special sound and color to the people of the world"; Professor Meng Weilong participated in the dialogue salon of the Nishan World Youth Forum; Professor Wang Xuedian delivered a speech at the "Nishan Overseas Chinese Forum" on the theme of "In depth dialogue with liberalism: the only way for Chinese culture to move towards the world"; Professor Ling Peixue delivered a keynote speech at the "Nishan World Forum of Traditional Chinese Medicine" on the theme of "Research and Development and Application of Biological Polysaccharides"; Professor Xie Wenyu delivered a speech in the 2022 Nishan Sino Greek Classical Civilization Dialogue under the theme of "Emotional Order and Rational Structure -- A Typological View of Ancient Chinese Civilization and Ancient Greek Civilization".

6 volunteers from Advanced Institute of Confucian Studies participated in the voluntary service of the forum, contributing their youthful strength.

The Nishan Forum on World Civilizations is named after the birthplace of Confucius, the great thinker and educator of ancient China. It is an international ideological and cultural dialogue and exchange platform with the theme of carrying out dialogue among different civilizations in the world, and the aim of promoting the excellent Chinese culture, facilitating cultural exchanges between China and the abroad, and promoting the building of a community of human destiny. The first Nishan Forum on World Civilizations was held in September 2010, and has been held for the eight times since then. This year's China (Qufu) International Confucius Cultural Festival and the 8th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations is organized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the International Confucian Association and the People's Government of Shandong Province. With the theme of "Diversity of Human Civilizations and Shared Values of Humanity", this forum pays more attention to cultural integration, internationalization of the forum, interactive experience and communication influence. More than 600 guests and scholars from China, the United States, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Austria, Greece, Russia, Canada, India, Egypt, Türkiye, Iran, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Israel and other countries participated in the dialogue and discussion. As one of the organizers of the Nishan Forum on World Civilizations, Shandong University participated in the preparatory work of the forum and provided strong academic support for the forum.
