Scholars of Confucianism and Mohism Gathered in Shandong Province,Sharing Ideas and Offering Strategies about National Governance

More than 100 experts and scholars from China, the United States, Russia and other countries and regions gathered in Jinan, Shandong province on the November 21st , 2020. In a way of combining online and offline, they shared the governance thoughts of Confucianism and Mohism, and provided suggestions for the national modernization and the construction of a community of shared future for mankind.

On the same day, the 13th International Mozi Luban Conference and Global Forum on Confucianism (2020), the 8th Mozi Cultural Festival jointly organized by Shandong University, Mozi Research Association of China, Tengzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government opened, with the theme of "The Communication of Confucianism and Mohism and National Governance".

Wang Xuedian, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC and Executive Dean of the Advanced Institute of Confucian Studies, Shandong University, said at the scene that the event will co-ordinate the International Mozi Luban Conference and Global Forum on Confucianism and the Mozi Cultural Festival. The purpose of the event is to identify the theoretical essence of the two schools in terms of national governance, to integrate their thoughts, and to open up a path for the integration and innovation of Confucianism and Mohism, so as to provide modern governance theory.

Chen Lai, Vice President of the International Association of Confucianism and Dean of Academy of Chinese Learning, Tsinghua University, said in his speech that Confucianism is the main body of Chinese culture and has strong inclusiveness and integration. However, it can not cover all aspects, which requires it to learn from other schools of thought and even foreign cultures. "In the current era of the integration of ancient and modern China and the west, we should jump out of the limitations of the traditional ideas of Confucianism and Mohism, look at the strengths of Confucianism and Mohism from a broader perspective, so as to make the past serve the present, transform and innovate."

Li Shouxin, President of Mozi Research Association of China, said that contemporary scholars should study the integration of Confucianism and Mohism to promote the integration and complementarity of Confucianism and Mohism. Only when the traditional Chinese ideology and culture are fully integrated can we form a "Chinese School" with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style that can truly represent China and organically combine various thoughts.

Kong Fanke, Vice Minister of Publicity Department of the CPC Shandong Provincial Party Committee, said in his speech that as the birthplace of Confucianism and Mohism, Shandong has implemented a series of major measures in inheriting and carrying forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture in recent years. The cultural and academic exchange activities have a wide impact on the ideological and cultural circles at home and abroad.

Wang Qilong, executive vice president of China Mozi society and executive vice president of Shandong University, said that the theme of the seminar is consistent with the current proposition of China's promoting the modernization of national governance system and governance capacity. With the platform of Tengzhou Mozi research center of Shandong University, the university will strengthen the research team of traditional culture, improve the research level of traditional culture and promote the in-depth development of Confucianism and Mohism through regional cooperation.

On the same day, after the opening ceremony, there will be more than 10 special exchange activities with different themes in Jinan and Tengzhou.
