Festival Studies

Festival Studies is an academic journal of Humanities and Social Sciences sponsored by Shandong University, and it is edited and published by Folklore Institute of Advanced Institute of Confucian Studies, Shandong University. Two volumes are published each year, which are collected by Chinese Journal Full-text Database CNKI. Being academic, open and practical, this journal mainly publishes academic papers, survey reports and academic criticism on festival research at home and abroad. It aims to build a high-end, open and in-depth academic platform for Chinese festival research, and improve the level of theoretical and practical research on Chinese festival culture, so as to serve academic development, talents training and cultural construction in the new era.

The main columns of festival research are theory and method exploration, festival history research, field work, overseas research translation, academic trends and book reviews. This journal adopts the broad definition of "festival", including festivals, memorial ceremonies, temple fairs, song fairs, etc., and advocates multidisciplinary research on folklore, anthropology, history, sociology, ethnology, religion, economics, pedagogy, and art with festivals as the topic. As of the first half of 2019, festival research has published 13 consecutive issues.
