When reporters of Guangming Daily visit Professor Wang Xuedian, member of the member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC and Executive Dean of the Advanced Institute of Confucian Studies, Shandong University, he was busy preparing for a conference. Although he is 64 years old, he is still full of energy.

“I have deep feelings for Guangming Daily, especially for the history edition, which had a great influence on me who was studying in Shandong University at that time, and I still kept the newspapers from 1979 to 1989,” said Wang, “One of the most impressive is that, when I graduated in 1986, Mr. Su Shuangbi, the editor in chief of the history edition, was on a business trip passing by Jinan. He listened to our defense and published news, which was very encouraging to me at that time. "

After graduating from Shandong University, Wang Xuedian has devoted himself to the study of Chinese history and culture, historical theory and history, and modern academic history of China. He has published more than ten theoretical articles in Guangming Daily. In particular, during the Two Sessions in 2019, Wang made a speech on the prevention and resolution of ideological risks, and then published a theoretical article on Guangming Daily, which caused heated response.

It is Wang's unchangeable belief in life to serve the country with academic achievements. In recent years, when the identity of Confucianism has been "legalized" and Chinese excellent traditional culture has become an important part of mainstream culture, Wang always ponders how to realize the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese excellent traditional culture and how to create a new form of Confucianism adapting to the real society.

Wang believes that only after the Confucianism is treated scientifically, can its essence enter the modern knowledge system and modern ideological system, and can have a more direct guiding significance for the governance of the country. The social sciences transplanted from the West must be localized, and Confucianism inherent in China must be socialized or modernized in order to give Confucianism more vitality.

Wang thinks that the scholars must have a sense of mission and always pay attention to the reality of China's social development. In recent years, as the member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC, he has put forward many proposals such as "encourage public officials to engage in volunteer activities and improve the image of cadres" and "change Teacher's Day into the birthday of Confucius" and other proposals to promote the development and prosperity of social and cultural life.

Although Wang is busy with administrative work and social activities, he does not forget his job as a teacher. Now he has 12 doctoral students and 5 master students. He has been the chief editor of the Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy for 14 years. This journal covers many disciplines, such as Confucianism, Chinese, history, philosophy and sociology, focusing on the frontier fields of Humanities and social sciences. "This is the secret that I can think in an interdisciplinary perspective and maintain a young heart." said Wang Xuedian.
